KWASU TO DEVELOP FIRST-CLASS ENGINEERING PROGRAMME

The Provost College of Engineering and Technology, Kwara State University,Malete, Professor Leo Daniel, a professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics, says the programme of the College remains the first of its kind in the country and that the College’s projection is to develop a first-class Engineering programme that would meet the standards of world-class institutions like Harvard and Stanford Universities.  Professor Daniel disclosed this while speaking with KWASU UPDATE.
He explained that other programme run by the College include Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Food, Agriculture and Bioengineering, Material Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.  According to him, all the six programmes have been approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) while the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) also gave them a pre-accreditation approval late last year.
Professor Daniel said the COREN team saw the College with the potential to successfully carry on with the programmes, hence their pre-accreditation approval.  “We are preparing for the full accreditation this year.  We’re determined to record the same success,” he said.
“Look at the key programmes like Aeronautics and Astronautics for instance, I think we are making huge impact; we are hiring the best (manpower) and we are still looking for more.  Equipment wise, we are integrating all equipment necessary.  Don’t forget that we have International Aviation College that is enhancing the Aeronautics and Astronautics Programme, which is a plus,” the Provost added.
The Don urged the Federal Government to invest in KWASU’s Aeronautics and Astronautics programme which he said is key to developing air system in the country, adding that it is a capital intensive programme which requires a lot of funding.  While acknowledging that Tertiary education Trust (TETFUND) is helping in funding the programme, he said that additional funding would be sourced from abroad.
